Lauer Lab Enters The Center for Hearing and Balance Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Members of the Lauer Laboratory worked together Monday morning to carve a pumpkin for the CHB Pumpkin Decorating contest. After a grueling and competitive design brainstorming session, they agreed on Madison Weinberg’s idea to carve a microscope and a vertical cochlear cross section.
Participating Lab members (Left to Right)
-James Engel Jr
-Yehyun Kim
-Hamad Javid (carving the pumpkin)
-Laurel Screven
-Madison Weinberg
-Nassir Albright
Lauer Lab Members Publish in the SHAR
Lauer Lab members contributed multiple chapters in the SHAR's 67th volume.
"Chapter 2: Rodent Vocalizations: Adaptations to Physical, Social, and Sexual Factors" (Laurel A. Screven). This chapter explores the degree of plasticity in perception, production, and usage of vocalizations as they are related to the organization of neural structures in rodents.
Okanoya, K. and Screven, LA. (2018) 'Rodent Vocalizations: Adaptations to Physical, Social, and Sexual Factors', in Dent, ML. Fay, RR. Popper, AN. (eds.) Rodent Bioacoustics. Cham: Springer Nature Switzerland, pp. 13-41.
"Chapter 4: Hearing in Rodents" (Laurel A. Screven). This chapter provides information on hearing abilities in rodents which will facilitate experiments on the perception of complex, natural acoustic stimuli.
Dent, ML. and Screven, LA. (2018) 'Rodent Sound Localization and Spatial Hearing', in Dent, ML. Fay, RR. Popper, AN. (eds.) Rodent Bioacoustics. Cham: Springer Nature Switzerland, pp. 71-105.
"Chapter 5: Rodent Sound Localization and Spatial Hearing" (Amanda M. Lauer, James H Engel, Katrina Schrode). This chapter reviews the cues available to rodents for successful localization and discrimination of acoustic stimuli, including interaural level, timing differences, and spectral cues.
Lauer, AM. Engel, JE. Schrode, K. (2018) 'Rodent Sound Localization and Spatial Hearing', in Dent, ML. Fay, RR. Popper, AN. (eds.) Rodent Bioacoustics. Cham: Springer Nature Switzerland, pp. 107-126.
